Survey Results: Status of Museum Education Programming in NYS

Prompted recently by the concerns of several Museum Association of New York member institutions about declining school visitation, MANY created an online survey to begin assessing the breadth of museum-school relationships. Fifty institutions ranging from art, science, history, children’s, and culturally specific institutions weighed in with information about their educational programming, their concerns for the future of museum-school programming, and their hopes for building stronger relationships with SED. The issues raised by respondents are interconnected and nuanced, all happening simultaneously and exacerbated by budget cuts. Overarching these challenges is a general lack of communication between SED and SED-chartered museums/heritage organizations about curriculum development, education trends and policies, and opportunities to integrate the rich resources of all USNY partners.
